Why "Don't Miss Out" Is a Must Read
Do you ever find yourself questioning your understanding of the Holy Spirit? Do you long for an acceleration of His presence in your life? Then this book will be a great read for you! “Don’t Miss Out: Daring to Believe Life is Better With the Holy Spirit” is authored by Christian blogger, speaker, and influencer Jeannie Cunnion. In the introduction of the book, Jeannie describes her personal experience in settling for less than God’s intended best for her life by not fully embracing the power of the Holy Spirit living within her. That same Spirit, the Spirit that brought creation into existence, that raised Jesus from the grave, that empowered the disciples to do mighty miracles, is the very Spirit that lives within you, dear sister. How often do we settle for less than all of God in our own lives? If we’re really honest, it’s probably more often than we’d like to admit. But Jeannie’s own awareness of her questions about the Holy Spirit is what prompted her to write this book, and in it she takes readers on a fascinating deep dive into the heart of God and His design for His presence in our lives. We love this book so much that it is actually the study guide we are using for our first ever Bible Study! Read on to find out the reasons we think this book is sure to make an investment in your life!
As believers, it’s safe to assume that we are all probably familiar with the doctrine of the Trinity. But that doesn’t mean it’s easy to understand! Thus, one of the first things that Jeannie establishes in the opening chapters of the book is who the Holy Spirit is. We tend to think of Him as more of an idea or a symbol, but this isn’t true. The Holy Spirit is a person! He is the very presence of the Living God dwelling within us! Let that sink in for a moment. How a holy God could look upon my sinful heart and think it a desirable place to dwell is something I’ll never understand, but it demonstrates the immeasurable love that God haas for us. His Holy Spirit indwells us at the very moment of salvation so that we may have constant communion with Him and eternal access to Him. Jeannie provides Scripture that shows us the Holy Spirit is a person, He is God, He is equal, and He is truth. He is no more or less God than the Father or the Son. As Jeannie so beautifully put it, they “are as equal as they are eternal”. The Holy Spirit aids in discernment, and is the revelation of God’s truth to us. It is only by the Spirit that we can know the truth of Christ and thus be reconciled to God. So if you’re questioning who the Holy Spirit is, this book will help you understand His identity from a Biblical perspective.
Next to understanding the identity of the Holy Spirit is understanding His role. How does He work? What does He do? Jeannie gives thorough answers and explanations to these questions and more. She boldly addresses the misconceptions and even fears that Christians have surrounding the Holy Spirit. Whether it’s thinking that the Holy Spirit is only accessible to the “super spiritual” Christians or that only highly trained theologians are qualified to speak on Him, Jeannie confronts these notions and assures readers that the Holy Spirit is equally accessible to all believers. He is not poured out in greater measure on some and not others. He is not the variable. She teaches how the Holy Spirit guides our lives, communicates with and through us, equips us for obedience to God, gives us spiritual gifts, produces spiritual fruit within us, and transforms us to be more like Jesus. She even touches on the things we do that can either draw us closer to or pull us away from the Holy Spirit. If you’re not sure how to identify your "spiritual pulse" or how He’s working in your life, this book will help give you greater clarity!
Another seemingly elusive topic that Jeannie discusses within her book is being in tune with the Holy Spirit. We all know we’re supposed to rely on Him, but how do we actually DO that? Jeannie walks readers through what it means to abide in God's presence and provides practical tips for learning to discern and obey the Holy Spirit's prompting. He is constantly at work to transform us into the likeness of our Savior, but we must learn to attune to Him, similar to how a radio tunes into a frequency, to recognize and submit to that transformation. While the Holy Spirit fully indwells every believer, not every believer lives in the fullness of the Spirit. So how do we change that? Jeannie urges readers that, through repentance and surrender, we can come to God and ask that He increase our capacity to receive His Spirit. Our God is not one to withhold Himself for us and actually desires to give us more of Himself. When we ask, He is faithful to increase our capacity to receive His Holy Spirit so that we may embrace His fullness. Being filled with the Spirit may not always come with an overwhelming feeling, but Jeannie stresses that, rather than relying on our own feeling we can lean into the promise of God and trust that what we ask for in faith we shall receive (Matthew 21:22, Mark 11:24).
No matter where you're at in your spiritual walk, whether you've been a believer for as long as you can remember or you're brand new to the faith, this book is sure to enrich your life.
